eco and ethical easter eggs

We are taking it as a bit of a given that the majority of us will indulge in a few chocolate easter eggs over the next few days, so what is available for the ethically minded? Here is a mini roundup of our favourite chocolate eggs…

For those seeking Fairtrade, the Divine brand has a great selection of chocolate eggs in milk, white or dark chocolate and even some tiny eggs which would be great for a hunt – check out their website for local stockists.

The organically minded could go for the very tasty Green and Blacks which produce organic eggs in dark, milk and white chocolate as well as a butterscotch and mint chocolate versions – a nice twist on the traditional.

These are available from all major supermarkets so you should be able to find them easy enough.

Or what about some raw chocolate?

These fantastic solid organic chocolate eggs by Rawr are packed in recycled, pale blue egg boxes and look wonderful. Get your skates on though, as orders need to be in by Wednesday to be fulfilled by Easter!

Our choice however goes to the South Coast based ethical chocolatiers, Montezuma’s Chocolate. This year they have produced a wonderfully named Eco-Egg, which has a hugely reduced amount of packaging encasing the chocolate – just a fully biodegradable carton and a foil wrap. Plus, they are running a fantastic competition where you can upload your decorated carton for a choice to win chocolate goodies. A winner in our book!

And for those who do not want chocolate, why not give the gift of a lovely apple tree, or some vegetable seeds instead?
