The British summertime to us is a memory from our youth and I’m sure it is the same for many of you. Working out low tide times, gathering together the nets and buckets, assembling the contents of the cool box and finding the windbreak. This last element was an essential piece of kit – without it you would freeze to death or be blown, along with the rest of your belongings halfway to the next groyne.
Despite the years which have passed, the windbreak remains as a must-have, but fortunately, the easily perished, stripy plastic threaded ones of our youth have been surpassed by some lovely replacements, and this one by Weymouth based Dart Designs has to be one of our favourites.
It features panels made from reclaimed sails – complete with numbers and letters which can be personalised to a date or initials of your choice. The windbreaks are also pretty indestructible - gone are the fraying windbreak edges of the past…Plus they are named after some of our best seaside locations – like the one above which is called Brighton (of course…)
At £130 each they are a great, hardwearing and sustainable addition to the beach kit bag – you will be the envy of all the others braving the rain and wind this summer.
