'mini murmuration' was a single night installation for White Night Brighton 2010, commissioned by Brighton and Hove City Council and the Brighton and Hove Arts Commission.
using the starlings who reside at the now skeletal west pier as inspiration, claire potter design created a wind generated LED light installation which swayed and fluctuated throughout the night in a shape reminiscent of the 'murmuration' roosting dance of the birds.
Red LED's were chosen to highlight the numerical decline of the starlings, which are now on the RSPB Species of Conversation Concern List.
you can also now watch our film of the installation here. |
