| this garden examines the british cut flower industry and poses the question of whether the air freight imports of blooms are necessary when we can grow so much of our own in the uk. the space is dominated by a reclaimed shipping container, converted into a florist's studio and a series of high level wires, representative of the flightlines taken into the uk for the imported flowers. these wires 'cut through' the beds below to create paths between the uk cutting flower masses. a boundary of eucalyptus shelters the space and provides foliage for the florist, whilst an exterior band of meadow grass, blackened with rubber chips reminds us of the impact of importing on both our own and the extended environment. |
